“The easiest way to get into the meditative state is to begin by simply listening.”
-Alan Watts
If you listen carefully,
Do you hear your own heartbeat?
Do you hear birds in the trees?
Do you hear your thoughts on what to eat?
Do you hear the wind in the trees?
If you listen carefully,
In what do these sounds take place?
Is it an outside space where the birds and the trees buzz?
Or an inside space in which your heart and your thoughts fuzz?
If you listen carefully,
Are the sources merging?
Like a symphony, cascading?
Perhaps a cacophony, singing?
If you listen carefully,
What happens to the outside?
What happens to the inside?
Or is it all just sound?
And listening itself but an effortless happening?
